Fifth wheel hitch sliders are usually needed with short box trucks hauling fifth wheel so the nose of the trailer doesn't take out the back window
To determine if a slider is needed and what length of travel is required:
- Measure distance from center of axle on the truck to the back window
- Subtract the distance from center of king pin to forwardmost point on nose on trailer (or add this amount, if the nose front is behind the kingpin
- Deduct this measurement from 1/2 the width of your trailer to get the amount of travel needed in your slider
